What are Labels for?

When is it useful?

Use a label when you already have several separate commands and want to launch them together. If you only want to run one routine, add a regular routine widget. Labels group the commands saved in this app; adding a label does not create or modify a routine in your Amazon Alexa account.

Example: a “Good night” button

You have three saved commands: “turn off the living-room lights”, “turn off the TV” and “turn on the bedroom light”. Add the label Good night to all three. A Good night label widget will send those three commands in sequence.

Another example: label the entrance-light and living-room-light routines Arrive home to launch both from one widget.

How to set it up

1. Open the first routine in Buttons for Alexa. Under Advanced → Labels, tap Add label, enter Good night and confirm.
2. Open each other routine you want in the group and add exactly the same label. Capital letters and spaces must match.
3. The routines run in their order in the app’s main list. Check that order before testing.
4. Open a routine in the group and tap Add widget → Add widget label (multiple routines). Choose Good night and confirm with your launcher. If direct addition is unavailable, open the Android home-screen widget picker and choose the Buttons for Alexa label widget.
5. Tap the new widget to run the group. To test it inside the app, tap Test on a grouped routine and choose the label sequence. Test sends real commands, so choose a suitable moment.

Add, remove or reuse a label

To add a routine to an existing group, give it the same label. To remove it from that group, remove the label from that routine. The routine itself remains saved. A routine can have more than one label: for example, the same lights command can belong to both “Good night” and “Leaving home”. A regular routine widget still runs only its selected routine; use a label widget to run the group.

If the group does not work as expected

• Test each saved routine individually first.
• Check that the label is identical on every routine and that the widget points to that label.
• Check PRO access and the order of the routines in the main list.
• Sequential command delivery does not guarantee that every physical action has finished before the next one begins. If a routine needs more response time, adjust Alexa execution time and test again.
