Automate Alexa routines with Tasker and compatible Notify apps

Start with a routine that works in Alexa, connect the same Amazon account and record its command in Buttons for Alexa. Test it on the phone before connecting an automation. Tasker and the dedicated Notify integration require PRO.

Get the Android app

Tasker: select the saved action through the plugin

  1. Install Tasker and configure your routine in Buttons for Alexa.
  2. Create a Tasker task and add the Buttons for Alexa plugin action.
  3. Open the plugin configuration and select your saved routine, then save the task.
  4. Run the task manually and check the result in Alexa before adding a profile such as a time or an NFC trigger.

Notify: use the integration in a compatible app

Compatible Notify-family apps can send a saved routine or label group to Buttons for Alexa on the phone. Availability depends on the particular Notify app, version and wearable. Configure the action in that app and test it manually with the phone connected. This is not a native watch app or a promise that every smartwatch is supported.

Buttons for Alexa PRO is required. If your companion app does not offer this integration, a generic Android intent is not a replacement recipe.

Can Google Home trigger it directly?

There is no supported direct Google Home-to-Buttons for Alexa recipe documented here. Google Home does not become a supported trigger merely because both apps run on Android. Use the Tasker plugin or a dedicated compatible Notify integration for the workflows described on this page.

Are generic Android intents supported?

There is no general-purpose public intent contract for arbitrary automation apps. The Tasker plugin and the dedicated Notify interface have different requirements. Do not configure internal service names or copy random intent extras; they are not a supported public setup.

If the automation does not run

  1. Test the same routine inside Buttons for Alexa.
  2. Check PRO and the selected routine or label. A selection copied from another phone must be configured again.
  3. If the phone test works, check the Tasker profile or Notify integration and the background settings for the app that starts the action.
  4. After restoring a backup, select the routine again in the plugin rather than assuming its old reference still points to the intended action.
